The Promise of the Father

Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave His followers a profound command not to depart from Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high. The disciples had already experienced salvation and the breath of the Spirit, but Jesus pointed them to a subsequent, empowering encounter known as the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He is the exclusive Baptizer in the Holy Spirit, and this divine immersion was never intended to be a one-time historical event locked away in the first century. Rather, it is a perpetual promise designed for every single generation of the Church to provide the necessary dynamic power to be effective witnesses in a dark world. This supernatural infilling transforms ordinary, fearful individuals into bold ambassadors who carry the authority of the Kingdom of heaven, enabling them to do the works of Christ and manifest His boundless love to the lost.
When we look at the ministry of Jesus Himself, we see that He operated as a man completely yielded to and anointed by the Holy Spirit. He did not perform a single miracle until after He was baptized in the Jordan River and the Spirit of God descended upon Him. If the spotless Son of God relied entirely on the power of the Holy Spirit to heal the sick, cast out devils, and preach the gospel, how much more desperately do we, as fragile human beings, need that exact same anointing resting upon our lives today! The baptism of the Holy Spirit is an exquisite, freely given gift from the Father, completely separate from the initial indwelling of the Spirit at salvation, meant to overflow from our spirits like rivers of living water so that we can bring the reality of Jesus Christ to a desperate, dying generation.
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Spiritual Gifts Are for Today

Throughout modern church history, certain groups have incorrectly taught that the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit ceased with the death of the original twelve apostles. This unbiblical theory suggests that the miraculous manifestations were only scaffolding meant to establish the early church and are no longer necessary for believers today. However, the Scriptures explicitly command us to pursue these spiritual endowments passionately, assuring us that God still intensely desires to equip His children with heavenly abilities. The Apostle Paul clearly notes that these gifts will only cease when "that which is perfect is come," referring to the ultimate return of Jesus Christ and our eternal presence with Him where limited knowledge makes way for perfect understanding. Since we are clearly not yet living in that state of absolute perfection, the gifts of healing, prophecy, miracles, and discernment remain absolutely vital and active tools for the edification of the Church today.
We must never allow the abuses, excesses, or theatrical counterfeits of the modern religious world to rob us of the genuine, authentic power that God has generously made available to His saints. Whenever a child of God asks their Heavenly Father for a spiritual gift, they can rest in the absolute, irrepressible assurance that He will never give them something false, demonic, or harmful. The Holy Spirit's gifts are distributed according to His sovereign will, not to elevate human egos or create platform celebrities, but to uniquely equip the body of believers to serve one another in profound love. These gifts are essential to demonstrating the undeniable reality of a resurrected Christ to the world around us.
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
The Gift of Speaking in Tongues

Among the various gifts of the Spirit, speaking in an unknown tongue is frequently misunderstood, yet it remains a profoundly beautiful and highly practical way to intimately commune with God. When a believer prays in tongues, they are engaging in a divine, supernatural bypass operation where the Holy Spirit overrides the limitations of the natural intellect and prays the exact, perfect will of the Father directly from the human spirit. This is not a meaningless babble, but a distinct heavenly language—the tongues of men or of angels—granted as a gift to the believer for the express purpose of deep personal edification. While prophecy edifies the entire congregation by speaking a known language, praying in the Spirit functions to charge the believer's spiritual battery, building them up in their most holy faith so they can stand victorious against the fierce oppositions of the enemy.
Jesus explicitly stated that speaking in new tongues would be one of the primary signs that follow those who genuinely believe in His name. It is not an exclusive privilege reserved for a select class of super-saints, nor is it an optional accessory to the Christian walk; it is part of the common salvation package meant to empower every child of God who steps into the baptism of the Holy Spirit. By yielding our vocal cords to the Holy Spirit, we allow Him to articulate the unutterable groanings of our hearts, praying over situations, loved ones, and spiritual battles that our natural minds know absolutely nothing about. This incredible gift helps to keep our inner spiritual life vibrant, perpetually sensitive to the gentle leadings of God, and completely aligned with the unfolding purposes of Heaven in our daily lives.
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.
Receiving the Holy Spirit

The process of receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit and His accompanying gifts is not meant to be a complex, strenuous, or agonizing theological ordeal. You do not have to beg, strive, or attempt to earn this empowerment through your own human merit, because it is impossible to earn a free gift from God. The single greatest requirement is a sincere, childlike faith that simply takes the Heavenly Father at His Word, trusting that He eagerly desires to fill you to overflowing. Whether hands are laid upon you by a fellow believer, or whether you are simply alone in your own room seeking the face of God, the Holy Spirit will gently come upon you the moment you fully yield your heart, abandon your natural reasoning, and step out in faith to speak the syllables He provides. He will not force your mouth open or possess you against your will, because where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is always perfect liberty and voluntary cooperation.
We are currently living in the last of the last days, an era where God promised through the prophet Joel that He would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh. In a world deeply ensnared by the kingdom of darkness, the Church cannot afford to operate purely on human intellect, slick marketing, or basic religious traditions; we absolutely must have the raw, untamed, miraculous power of the Holy Ghost coursing through our veins. Let us boldly ask our Father today for a fresh baptism of fire, eagerly desiring the spiritual gifts so that we may accurately represent the boundless love and undeniable authority of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we walk in this supernatural dimension, we will watch the sick be healed, the bound be delivered, and the lost be drawn to the glorious light of the Gospel that shines brightly through our yielded lives.
