Created But Fallen
In order to walk in complete spiritual victory, it is incredibly helpful to understand exactly who the enemy is and where he came from. Satan is not an eternal equal to God; he is merely a created being. The scriptures reveal that he was once in the angelic world, present in Eden, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty from the day he was created. However, he did not retain his original glorious position. He fell from heaven due to his own pride, harboring a rebellious desire to exalt his throne and be like the Most High. Because of this arrogant ambition, he was cast out and became the adversary, leading a host of fallen angels with him.
We do not have to live in fear of the devil, because we serve the sovereign Creator of the universe. Satan's power is entirely restricted, and his limitations are absolute. Knowing that he is a fallen, finite creature—and not an all-powerful deity—gives us the proper perspective to stand boldly against his deceptive tactics and lies.
The god of This World
When God lovingly created Adam and Eve, He gave them perfect dominion and authority over the earth. However, when Adam yielded to the serpent's temptation and rebelled against God, he tragically bowed his knee to the enemy and handed over that earthly authority. This is precisely why the Bible refers to Satan as the lowercase "god of this world" and the ruler of this age. The pain, sickness, war, and misery we see around us are the direct results of a world lying under the sway of the wicked one.
Satan operates as the prince of the power of the air, utilizing lies and illusions to keep people trapped in darkness and separated from the incredible love of God. Yet, we must be deeply encouraged, because his reign is strictly temporary and his deception is easily shattered by the glorious light of the Gospel. As believers, we have been beautifully translated out of his kingdom of darkness and into the eternal Kingdom of God's beloved Son.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Defeated at the Cross
The most profoundly encouraging truth for every Christian is that Satan is already a completely defeated foe. At the cross of Calvary, Jesus died not only to pay the full penalty for our sins, but to entirely strip the devil of his power and authority. Jesus made a spectacular, public display of the enemy's defeat, dragging him through downtown eternity in chains and fulfilling the ancient promise that the Seed of the woman would forever crush the serpent's head.
Because of the finished work of Jesus Christ, we are no longer trying to fight for victory; we are joyfully fighting from a place of absolute victory. The devil's ammunition of guilt and condemnation has been entirely nailed to the cross and taken out of the way. You can rest in perfect peace knowing that the enemy's power over your life was permanently broken the moment Jesus declared, "It is finished."
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
His Ultimate Destiny
Satan is known as the accuser of the brethren, and he loves to whisper lies, constantly reminding believers of their past mistakes, failures, and shortcomings. However, whenever the enemy tries to remind you of your past, you have the authority to boldly remind him of his terrifying future! The Bible tells us exactly where he is headed, and it is a permanent, inescapable end to his rebellion. His doom is absolutely sealed.
He is destined for the bottomless pit and the lake of fire, where he will never again be able to deceive the nations, cause pain, or bring sorrow to God's cherished children. While our eternal future is filled with radiant joy, healing, and the unbroken presence of our Savior, the enemy's future is completely finalized in absolute destruction.
Weapons of Our Warfare
Because Jesus has already won the ultimate war, He has graciously delegated His divine authority to the Church so that we can overcome the enemy in our daily lives. We do not have to sit back as passive victims to the devil's schemes; God has equipped us as triumphant warriors. We have been given the Name of Jesus, which commands authority in heaven, on earth, and over the entire demonic realm.
We actively overcome the father of lies by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. When we boldly speak God's rich promises out loud and declare the finished work of the cross over our families, our health, and our minds, we effectively shut down the enemy's attacks. Your spoken faith is a mighty spiritual weapon that releases heavenly power and extinguishes the fiery darts of the wicked one.
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Walking in Victorious Confidence
You can confidently step forward into each new day with immense, unshakeable courage. The devil may try to roam around using fear and intimidation, but he has absolutely no legal right or power over a blood-bought child of God. By recognizing his defeated status, resisting him steadfastly in faith, and yielding your heart completely to the Lord, you will consistently watch the enemy flee from your presence.
Be deeply encouraged today! The exact same Spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead lives permanently on the inside of you. You are fully protected by God's grace, surrounded by His angels, and destined to enforce the glorious triumph of Jesus Christ over the kingdom of darkness. Your life is a beautiful testimony to the fact that the Light of the World has conquered, and the darkness can never overcome it!
