Walking by Faith

Walking by Faith

Trusting God when the path is steep.

The Spiritual Law of Faith

Faith is often thought of as merely a feeling, a wish, or a hopeful perspective on life. However, the Bible reveals that faith is actually a powerful spiritual law. Just as the natural realm is governed by physical laws like gravity, the spiritual realm is governed by invisible but absolute spiritual laws, with the law of faith being primary. When we understand and cooperate with these divine laws, we open up our lives to receive the abundant goodness God has prepared for us.

We are not justified by a law of human works or by striving in our own strength, but entirely by the glorious law of faith. This means that living a victorious Christian life is not based on perfectly keeping a set of rules to earn God's favor, but on trusting in the completed work of Jesus Christ. Operating in the law of faith brings immense freedom, allowing us to confidently expect God to act on our behalf simply because we trust Him.

How the Law of Faith Works

The beautiful law of faith operates through a combination of what we believe internally and what we express externally. Scripture teaches that faith is a gift from God that comes directly by hearing the Word of God. As we listen to and meditate on His promises, faith naturally begins to grow and take root deep within our hearts.

However, it is not enough to quietly believe; the spirit of faith has both a believing part and a speaking part. We must believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths to see the reality of God's promises manifest in our lives. When we hear the Word, believe it wholeheartedly, and then declare it boldly over our circumstances, we activate the law of faith and position ourselves to experience incredible breakthroughs.

Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

Romans 3:27

Admonition From Those Who Went Before Us

We are not alone on this journey, and we do not have to figure out how to walk by faith all by ourselves. The Old Testament is richly filled with accounts of men and women who trusted God in the face of impossible situations. The Bible reminds us that all these historical events happened as examples, and they were specifically written down for our admonition and learning today.

By looking back at the testimonies of those who went before us, our own faith is powerfully ignited. The very same God who delivered, healed, and provided for them is eagerly waiting to do it again for us. We can draw profound encouragement from knowing that we belong to a long, victorious lineage of believers who proved God's unwavering faithfulness.

The Biblical Example of Abraham

Abraham stands out as a magnificent and encouraging biblical example of how the law of faith works in real life. When he was nearly a hundred years old and still had no children, God gave him the incredible promise that he would become the father of a multitude of nations. In the natural, this was completely impossible, but Abraham chose to look beyond his physical limitations.

Instead of focusing on the impossibilities, Abraham focused entirely on what God had said. He did not waver in unbelief, but grew incredibly strong in his faith, giving glory to God and remaining fully convinced that God was absolutely able to perform what He had promised. His life teaches us how to boldly call things that do not exist as though they did, anchoring our hope entirely on the Word of God.

Jesus, the Author and Finisher of Our Faith

In all our learning and growing, our ultimate focus must always remain securely fixed on our Savior. We are called to look unto Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith. He is the one who initiates this beautiful gift within us, sustains it through every season, and will faithfully bring it to perfect completion. We do not have to rely on our own willpower to generate faith; we simply look to Him.

Jesus demonstrated the ultimate life of faith when He endured the cross, looking past the immediate suffering to the eternal joy that was set before Him. When we face challenges or obstacles, we are empowered to run our race with endurance by keeping our eyes locked on His finished work. He perfectly models how to walk in victory and graciously supplies everything we need to follow in His triumphant footsteps.

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

John 10:28

Eternally Secure in His Hand

The most comforting and joyous truth about living a life of faith is the absolute security we possess in Christ. When we place our trust in Him, He freely gives us eternal life, and He promises that absolutely no one can ever snatch us out of His hand. We are completely safe, deeply loved, and perfectly protected.

This means your future is incredibly bright and your spiritual foundation cannot be shaken. You do not have to live in fear of losing your salvation or being overcome by the trials of this world. You are held firmly by the invincible power of God.

  • You are fully protected by His unending grace.
  • Your spiritual life is eternal and unbreakable.
  • You can step into every new day with joyful confidence in His promises.
